Kirstenbosch: A Winter Garden

Date: 2 July 2011

Location: Kirstenbosch

Walker: Helen & Dorothy

The Kirstenbosch archive is here.

We popped into Kirstenbosch for a bite of lunch followed by a little wander around the upper slopes. The garden was looking very green.

We headed for the buchu garden as these small fragrant shrubs are in flower now. They don't flower for long, so this is the time to see them. Teeny-tiny little flowers, but so very pretty!

There were some other fynbos plants in flower. I'm crazy about grey foliage.

Not sure what this is - I'm keen to go back to see if it has opened.

Another favourite, fluffy featherhead was to be seen in several beds.

Orange Cobra lilies are also in flower now.

Lower down in the garden we saw aloes.

There were other spots of colour in the garden...

... but nothing more colourful than a sunbird!
