Bad Weather at Muizenberg Beach

I had a little time to kill in the Muizenberg area so I headed down to the beach for a bit of a leg-stretch.



It was a cool, cloudy day and there weren't many people around at all. Except the intrepid surfers!



I hadn't walked far when the rain arrived. I hurried back as fast as I could, sought shelter in a restaurant and order a pot of hot cup.

Summery June on Muizenberg Beach

Between the cold fronts Cape Town typically has wonderful weather in June: still, crisp and clear, and surprisingly warm in the sunshine. Today was one of those days. Michele and I walked while some friends surfed.



A little plane buzzed past.



The fisherman were out trying their luck.



Snail trails on the sand...



... shells...



... even a paper nautilus (sadly not a whole one).



Even the water was warmish. We paddled!



I'd borrowed Dorothy's new toy: a Fitbug pedometer. I want one!

Quick Walk on Muizenberg Beach

It was a gorgeous day, and Dorothy and I met up for an amble along the beach. Saturday morning is surf-school at Muizenberg which means many learner-surfers in the waves. It looked like they were having lots of fun.



I spotted a few interesting sea-weeds on the sand.



Further along we came across some fishermen hauling nets out the sea. It was quite a catch... several bakkie-loads of fish!





The sea-gulls were certainly enjoying it!

Muizenberg in the Mist

We wrapped up warmly for a late-afternoon stroll along the beachfront at Surfer's Corner in Muizenberg. Despite the wintery weather the surfers were out. Instead of heading onto the sand we took the Catwalk, the paved path heading in the direction of St James.



The path is just below the railway line and every so often a trained rattled passed with much noisy clatter.




We hadn't been walking long when a mist rolled in. Brr!




As the mist came in the temperature dropped and it felt too cold and unpleasant to be out, so we headed back. The beachfront was looking rather bleak in the grey weather.



We left the beachfront and headed to the cosy market for a bite to eat.

Muizenberg Beach: Surfer's Corner

Dorothy and I met in Muizenberg and left our cars in the little parking lot at the end of York Road, near the station (and the bookshop). From here we had to cross the railway line to get to the beach.



And onto the sand! This end of the beach is known as Surfer's Corner.



The surf schools were in full swing with kids of all ages in the water. Conditions were perfect.




Architecturally there is whole lot going on here: art deco facades on the beachfront properties, colonnaded ablution facilities near the beach, brightly coloured wooden bath houses on the sand and the hideous Muizenberg Pavilion in the middle of it all.



We walked on past the hustle and bustle of Surfer's Corner. Of course we had to detour around the canal.



After that we strode out on the long wide stretch of white sand.



There was a little sea mist rolling in making it hazy.



As usual kelp and mussel shells dotted the beach.



After a way we turned and walked back. On the way we passed this wedding party having photos taken on the sand. It looked like they were having a really good time. Congratulations strangers!
