Stroll on Fish Hoek Beach

I met up with my old 'varsity friend Lee, back in SA on holiday with a couple of friends, for a walk along Fish Hoek beach. It was a sunny day, but with a sneaky cold wind, especially on the Clovelly corner side where we started.



It was nicer on the Fish Hoek side...



... so we continued along Jagger Walk. Chatting all the way!



Cape Town was looking particularly gorgeous for our overseas visitors.

Walking Dogs on Fish Hoek Beach

The northern section of Fish Hoek beach is Dom's favourite dog-walking spot. A cool and cloudy weekday public holiday was the perfect opportunity for us to drive down to the beach and give the hounds a run.




A lagoon has formed as the stream is no longer open to the sea.




The beach was strewn with kelp.



Malachy and Sharky chased after lengths of sea-weed lobbed into the sea. A fun game for boisterous and happy dogs!





Henry had no interest in 'fetch' and took off by himself, sniffing his way up and down the beach.



We walked as far as we could - the southern part of the beach does not allow dogs. Then we turned around and made our way back.



I particularly enjoyed the soft silvery colours of the sea and the sky.

Fish Hoek Beach, Again

We took the dogs for a walk along the length of the Fish Hoek beach from Clovelly Corner, and back again.




The little river from the Silvermine Wetlands was running strongly and was very brown and brackish. Didn't deter the dogs from playing in the water, so much warmer than the sea.




There were a couple of boats on the beach: fishing boats & catamarans.




It was a bit too windy to settle down here, so we went on the Danger Beach in St James which was much more sheltered. Here we lazed in the sun, read, picnicked and had the first glorious swim of the summer!

Fish Hoek Beach

We set off intending to swim, but the wind was blowing so strongly and the water was so cold we decided it was not swimming weather.



Instead we had a walk up and back along the kelp-strewn beach, which the dogs enjoyed very much.



The beach stretches between Clovelly corner, with Trappies Kop above, towards Fish Hoek on the slopes of Elsies Peak.
