Kirstenbosch: A Winter Garden III

Date: 23 July 2011

Location: Kirstenbosch

Walker: Dom & Helen

The Kirstenbosch archive is here.

My third visit to the garden in as many weeks!

As per usual we headed up to the upper garden. Despite it being a lovely day there weren't many people around, and it felt like we had the place to ourselves as we meandered along the paths and grassy lawns, enjoying the sunshine and soaking up the relaxing atmosphere.

There was plenty in flower in the soft pastel spectrum.

And the aloes provided pops of bright colour.

I spotted a tortoise in the undergrowth. I think it is the first time I've seen a tortoise in Kirstenbosch.

A pair of Egyptian geese brought their brood right past us. Such cuties!

In fact there were a lot of birds in the garden this visit.

Our stroll took us through the restio garden...

... and down past the cycads into the dell.

So many flwoers and birds. I can smell the fresh air from here. The area around the dell is where I normally head forst when I go to Kirstenbosch

I wish I knew my birds! I've just paged through my Birds of SA and I haven't a clue... a lark? a cistocola? a LRJ!
