Date: 24 March 2010
Location: from Nahoon Corner, East London
Walkers: Rendall, Helen and Shadow
**** Route plotted here ****
My dad and I went down to Nahoon Beach for a walk. From the Nahoon Corner parking area we walked left, towards the river. There weren't many people on the beach as it was rather windy. I like walking in a wind - it really blows the cobwebs away!
There's a lagoon at the mouth of the Nahoon River. The water was crystal clear and warm. If I'd brought my swimming things I'd have had a dip.
Bonza Bay is across the river.
The Eastern Cape has such beautiful beaches and sand dunes. They feel much wilder than the beaches around Cape Town.
Back at the other end of the beach we walked up to the rocky headland. There is a path that leads up and over to Bat's Cave on the other side. I'll have to do more exploring next time I'm there.

East London: Bunkers Hill Dog Walk in the Rain
Date: 22 March 2010
Location: Bunkers Hill, East London
Walkers: Helen, Paddy and Shadow
For this morning's walk we decided to go a-wandering along the streets, as we did here.
First we walked up to the open field and walked Shadow around the perimeter. Then we walked further along the streets of the suburb. The skies were lovely, with a fair bit of cloud about.
Out of nowhere some dark clouds gathered and we got caught in a rather fierce but fortunately very short rain-storm. We were getting drenched so hurried home. But the rain was over by the time we got home and a pretty rainbow came out.

Gonubie Beach Boardwalk
Date: 22 March 2010
Location: at the beachfront, Gonubie, Eastern Cape
Walkers: Paddy, Flick and Helen
**** Route plotted here ****
My mom, aunt and I went down to the beach in the small seaside town of Gonubie. From the parking area we walked along the raised wooden boardwalk, past the dunes and over the rocks to the sandy beach near the mouth of the Gonubie River.
The beach was glorious... the sea calm and warm and the sand golden.
Towards the end of the boardwalk we looked down on some fun sand sculptures below.
The cat one was my favourite!
We walked on to the river. I love the cliffs and wild tropical vegetation on the far bank. So natural and unspoilt. Apparently the whole hillside is going to be developed soon as a golf estate - what a shame!
There were quite a few folks boating and fishing on the river.
There was such a relaxed summery holiday vibe.
Our route looped round and back to the boardwalk.
Always feels good to walk on the beach in the sunshine, doesn't it?

East London: Dog Walk on the Field Again
Date: 21 March 2010
Location: Bunkers Hill, East London
Walkers: Paddy, Helen and Shadow
Back to the sports fields (see also here and here) for a leg stretch for me, my mom and the pooch.
As before we meandered around the large field with the cricket pitch. This evening though my attention was drawn to the beautiful skies above.
We extended the walk with a detour along the streets on the way home.

East London: Dog Walk on the Lower Field
Date: 20 March 2010
Location: Bunkers Hill, East London
Walkers: Helen, Paddy, Flick and Shadow
I went back to the nearby sports fields with my mom and aunt to give Shadow the dog her afternoon walk. This time we went through the gum trees and down to the lower field, then round to the big field afterwards. It was overcast and gloomy and we hoped for some much-needed rain - a few drops fell later but not nearly enough.
