Table Mountain: Kloof Corner to Cableway
Date: 13 September 2010
Location: Table Mountain
Walkers: Michele, Helen & Dorothy
*** Route plotted here ***
Look at the Kloof Corner archive here for all walks on this path.
Starting out from the last bend on Table Mountain Road, we set off up the familiar stepped path, zig-zagging up the hill. The fynbos is green, lush and lovely this time of year. It feels like a garden!
After a while we got our first view of the Twelve Apostles.
Lions Head behind us was silhouetted in the late afternoon sunshine, as some sea mist drifted across Kloof Nek.
The last short sharp climb brought us up to the rock face.
I was hoping to see some Babianas and we did, in shades of blue, purple and white. They were very nearly past their best.
It was good to spot our first Pseudoselago of the spring, just opening up.
And we saw a lot of this delicate little blue flower, Heliophila africana.
A single Wachendorfia paniculata was in flower alongside the path, and the many buds on a papery everlasting were about to open. This is Helichrysum fruticans, if I'm not mistaken.
Don't think I've ever seen a happier china flower (Adenandra uniflora).
We completed our walk by following the contour path for a while, then descending down to the lower cable station. We walked along the road back to the start, just as the light began to fade.
